DIY Valentine Wreath - Conversation Heart Wreath Tutorial

I don't have a ton of Valentines decorations, so we decided it would be fun to make some really big conversation hearts to be put around the house. However, I was also racking my brain for a Valentines wreath idea. Uh durrrr!!  These would make a super cute Valentines wreath! We cut a couple more hearts out and put this together. We thought it would be a fun tutorial to do, but for those of you who don't want to brave the project, you can also buy one in our Etsy shop.

The hardest part is cutting the hearts out of the wood, so once you get past that, it's cake. I promise!

Supplies Needed:
- Jig Saw
- Hot Glue Gun
- 4" heart stencil
- 1/2" wood plank
- 15" Diameter wreath form (we cut ours out of plywood)
- White primer
- Sander or sanding blocks
- 3-4 Pastel paint colors (spray or can & brush)
- #2 Pencil and standard white paper
- Red oil based Sharpie paint pen
- Fabric to wrap wreath form
- Ribbon for hanging

Step 1 - stencil on hearts on your wood plank and cut each one out with your jig saw. (fhew hard part over).
Step 2 - sand the edges of the hearts rounding them out to give them that soft look
Step 3 - prime and paint each of the hearts.  I chose to go with traditional candy heart colors, but I thought some non-traditional colors would be really fun too.  I had to mix in a little white paint to a couple of my colors to give it that more "pastel" look.
Step 4 - You can either hand write your sayings on the hearts, but if you wanted it to look more like the real candy hearts like we did, we found a similar "candy heart" font and printed out our sayings.  Then we used pencil to trace the border of each letter on the back heavily for transfer, then traced the printed side of the letters to transfer the graphite onto the wood heart.
Step 5 - With a steady hand, outline and fill in the graphite stencil transfer with the red oil based Sharpie pen.
Step 6 - Wrap your wreath form in any cute fabric or ribbon that you choose.  I used grey fabric with white polka dots.
Step 7 - Layout how you want your hearts before you glue them on.  This makes it easier to make sure they are correctly spaced.  Start gluing the hearts on the wreath form - make sure to leave room for the ribbon.
Step 8 - Wrap a cute Valentines ribbon around the top and hang

AND THATS IT!  It's really pretty easy once you get past the cutting part.  Hope you enjoy and if you make one, I wanna see!  Also linked up at Tatertots and Jello, I Heart Naptime, Lil Luna, Somewhat Simple, Today's Creative Blog
