Hey Pumpkin

We went to the pumpkin farm with the kiddos this weekend and had a blast. It was a night filled with pony rides, petting zoos, playing in the hay and of course picking pumpkins. Now what to do with our pumpkins?? Check out these totally brill ideas from Country Living. I am loving the gilded pumpkins!

Boots Glorious Boots

Chunky knits, adorable scarfs, the perfect pants and....BOOTS. It's my favorite fashion season and I am always on the hunt for the perfect boots. Normally, most the boots I fall in love with end up being way out of my price range. A girl can dream right? So this year I decided to look for some more wallet-friendly boots. I searched a slew of web sites to find my favorites, but there were so many that I loved! The hardest part was narrowing them down. Make your feet happy and buy yourself a pair of beautiful boots this season. They deserve it after a summer spent in flip-flops.

Comfort Food: Drinks

The Pumpkin Spice Lattes are out in full force already (very yummy), however if you're more of a tea person like me treat yourself to a Breve Chai. It's smooth and creamy goodness with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg are totally perfect for fall. (Starbucks is my favorite Chai flavor)

So Good you Could Eat Em'

A big part of fall for me is the scents. I love having that fresh baked or spice smell in my home this time of year. I've tried several brands of candles, but one of my fav's is Walmart's Mainstays candles in Pumpkin Spice or Hazelnut. I usually buy the jar kind, but they have really strong scents that permeate the whole house. The best part: they are only $5 bucks!

Also check these out for other fun suggestions:
The Spotted Hog Candle Company
Laugh Out Loud (LOL) Candles
And of course Salt City Candles
And check out candlefind.com if you want help finding the perfect candle.

Fall Fun

Fall is here - even though it was close to 100 degrees last week. This is absolutely my favorite time of year. I love the fall colors and the crisp cool air. The sweaters and jeans. I also love the holidays and being around family. Let's not forget the food. It is comfort food season my friends. So I thought it would be fun to make all of this months posts all about fall/Halloween stuff.

Check out these cute Shortbread Finger Cookies from William Sonoma. They look so real it might be kinda hard to eat them. But eat them I will!

The Penny Pincher Experiment

So we moved in July and as most girls know, one of the hardest things to do is break up with your hairdresser. If I could've taken my hairdresser and my OBGYN with me I'd be a happy girl. It was such a busy time that I didn't even realize that my hair was becoming 3 different colors. I had colored it a redish color, my brown roots were showing as were some of my highlights that I had done over the summer. Uh I can't believe I was walking around like that! Now I had to find a hairdresser and trust that they'll do a good job. Oh and I needed to do this quickly. Right. So I decided to be a "do-it-yourself" girl and save myself probably $100 bucks. Now mind you I usually just do a darker brown for the fall and winter, so I would not have attempted this for summer highlights.

I had not colored my own hair since I was 15 and thought the funkier it came out the better, so I was a bit nervous. I made sure that I did it on a night that I didn't have to be somewhere the next day. After some research and a bit of online tutorials I was ready. I found a great review on InStyle.com for at home hair color, so I decided to take their advice and bought Loreal's Feria hair color #40 Espresso.

My review: it was a bit messy, but that was operator error. It turned out pretty nice. The color was true to the box color and my hair was super shiny and smooth. Very impressed. Also L'Orealparisusa.com is genius. You can actually have an expert in picking the right color and there is an online tutorial for applying! How great is that! Oh also, I would totally recommend getting 2 bottles to start with. I have longer thicker hair and there is NO WAY one would have done it for me.

Happy coloring!
