The Penny Pincher Experiment
So we moved in July and as most girls know, one of the hardest things to do is break up with your hairdresser. If I could've taken my hairdresser and my OBGYN with me I'd be a happy girl. It was such a busy time that I didn't even realize that my hair was becoming 3 different colors. I had colored it a redish color, my brown roots were showing as were some of my highlights that I had done over the summer. Uh I can't believe I was walking around like that! Now I had to find a hairdresser and trust that they'll do a good job. Oh and I needed to do this quickly. Right. So I decided to be a "do-it-yourself" girl and save myself probably $100 bucks. Now mind you I usually just do a darker brown for the fall and winter, so I would not have attempted this for summer highlights.
I had not colored my own hair since I was 15 and thought the funkier it came out the better, so I was a bit nervous. I made sure that I did it on a night that I didn't have to be somewhere the next day. After some research and a bit of online tutorials I was ready. I found a great review on InStyle.com for at home hair color, so I decided to take their advice and bought Loreal's Feria hair color #40 Espresso.
My review: it was a bit messy, but that was operator error. It turned out pretty nice. The color was true to the box color and my hair was super shiny and smooth. Very impressed. Also L'Orealparisusa.com is genius. You can actually have an expert in picking the right color and there is an online tutorial for applying! How great is that! Oh also, I would totally recommend getting 2 bottles to start with. I have longer thicker hair and there is NO WAY one would have done it for me.
Happy coloring!
